Most people are familiar with podcasts now and there are lots of great options for adults, but did you know that there are plenty of good ones for kids too? Here are the best podcasts for young kids, to keep them entertained on road trips or while travelling this summer or just for some new bedtime stories!
Podcasts are a great screen-free way to entertain kids. But it’s not just mindless entertainment! Many podcasts are informative and entertaining, encouraging kids to think about the world in a different way. And listening to podcasts also has other benefits for kids. Similar to listening to a book read aloud by teachers and adults, listening to podcasts improves kids’ attention and memory and helps stimulate their imagination.

Kids’ podcasts can be used anytime! They’re great for bedtime stories, quiet time, but especially when driving in the car! Most stories run about 10-20 minutes long, so we use them for longer trips in the car and they’re especially useful for road trips. To be honest though, I didn’t discover them until AFTER we had done 1600km of a road trip, relying on books and other activities.
So although podcasts are definitely not limited to road trips, it’s a great time to use them! So while you’re travelling this summer, whether you’re heading out for a road trip or shorter day trips, here are the best podcasts to keep your preschoolers and young kids entertained.
Best Podcasts for Preschoolers and Young Kids
Story Nory
With over 600 audio stories on their site, Storynory is one of largest collections of children’s audio books on the internet. They produce original stories and myths from around the world and aim to showcase imagination, good writing and great narrations.
Story Pirates
The Story Pirates are a nationally renowned group of comedians, musicians, authors and teachers who adapt stories written by kids into sketch comedy and musical theatre. Each story is presented in a different style, from narration to songs, and one story is even done in the style of a podcast. At the end, the author is interviewed and my kids love hearing how the story was inspired. Each episode includes a ‘story spark’ to inspire kids to write their own story and they can submit them to be featured on the podcast.
Circle Round
Circle Round adapts folktales from around the world into sound and music radio plays for kids aged 4-10. Episodes are between 10-20 minutes long and explore issues like kindness, persistence and generosity. Each episode ends with an activity or question that encourages kids to reflect on the story and aims to inspire deeper conversation between children and grownups.
Story Time
A collection of original children’s bedtime stories, with a new story added every other week. Each story is usually 10-15 minutes long, just long enough to keep your toddler, preschooler and little ones engaged. The creators advertise the podcast as a series of bedtime stories, but honestly, they’re great for anytime!
Bedtime Explorers
Each episode takes little explorers on a calm, dreamy journey through space to visit the moon, the planets and the stars while learning meditation techniques to calm their minds, bodies and hearts.
Kids Story Room
Featuring wonderful, wacky and original stories for kids aged 1 – 100, this is another podcast where kids are encouraged to send in their own story ideas to be recreated as a podcast.
What If World
A podcast of wacky stories that are inspired by kids questions. The creator believes that if kids keep asking questions, they’ll be open to new ideas and new challenges. The stories aim to keep kids laughing and learning well into adulthood. Call in and leave a question to be featured on the show!

I LOVE this! I am always putting on cartoons for my kids as background noise when they play and I think these podcasts would work so much better. Same for car rides, I sometimes too often just hand them their tablets, but they could just be listening to these! Thank you for sharing
You’re welcome! My guys love the stories and request a few over and over!
I never even thought about podcasts for kids! I love the idea of listening to a story while we color and the why podcast!
Podcasts would be great to listen to while they colour!
